Delegating tasks is not as easy as it seems. In fact, it should be done the right way. Smart delegation requires careful planning and too much thought put into it. And it is surely not just handing off the tasks blindly from the list. The first step is to delegate which task to whom. But before that, you need to know what tasks you can absolutely not delegate. In other words, you probably don’t want to delegate the task of concluding the next product the business will sell the next year, but you want to delegate customer survey to an eligible employee.

Again, the tasks you delegate should be specific and clear. If the clients are taking too long to pay bills, just asking employees to make calls doesn’t do any good. In essence, you need to match the skills and personality in order to maximize potential and productivity. Who the employee is going to report about the position and progress of the task is also important. Not all of the employees in a business can report to you. There needs to be a hierarchy. The lesser the people that are reporting to you directly, the easier it is to handle the business. Again, delegating the task calls for motivation to the employee that is handling the task.
